DRUMS

I originally started building drums because I had some extra parts laying around, wanted a certain size of drum, and found it more affordable to build it instead of buy it from a custom shop. The drum builder's forum at DrumRap.com got me hooked on it again and it developed into a hobby (which keeps me off the couch eating myself to death, and in the garage making something beautiful to look at and play).
Note: I have recently gone to using only Aquarian drum heads because of their consistancy, ease of tuning, and quality of sound.

KIT INFO: (click HERE for drumset pictures)
Shells: 6 ply Keller shells on 2 small toms and kick drum, 8 ply Keller shells on floor toms.
Wood/Stain: All maple shells with Solarlux Wheat dye. No finish on bearing edges. Waxed with a candle.
Finish: 5 or 6 coats of Universal Finishes Gloss Arm-R-Seal finish applied with rag. Rubbed out with Solarlux Deluxing Compound.
Sizes: 8x10, 9x12, 14x14, 16x16, and 18x20
Lugs: Pearl type tom and bass lugs.
Mounting System: RIMS style with DW tom brackets on 2 small toms. RIMS style baskets on floor toms.
Heads: Toms-Aquarian Coated Double Thins on tops and single ply Classic Clears on bottoms. Kick-Aquarian Super Kick 1 on batter and white Force II on front with hole. Pro-Cushion inside of kick.
Bearing Edges: 4/2 and 6/2 45's with a .06" flat area at peak, and a 3/16's roundover on outside 2 plies. Lightly sanded with #0000 steel wool and rubbed with candle before mounting drum heads.
Finishing Supplies: Woodcraft and Home Depot.
SNARE INFO: (click HERE for snare drum pictures)
8 ply Keller maple 5.75x13 shell (used to be 13x13 floor tom), Solarlux Wheat dye, 7 coats of Deft Gloss Spray Laquer, and rubbed out with Solarlux Deluxing Compound. Heads are Aquarian Texture Coated on top and Classic Clear Snare side giving the drum a warm, meaty, wood sound.

NEW SNARES INFO: (click HERE for snare drum pictures)
Both snares were built from Vaughncraft shells and finished with Universal Finishes Arm-R-Seal wipe on poly.

NEW DRUM KIT: (click HERE for drumset pictures)
8 ply Keller maple shells for the 7x12 rack tom and 12x14 floor tom. I built two bass drums to go with it, 14x18 and 18x22, something for jazz and something for rock. They are finished with a whitewash finish and clear waterbased poly. They didn't turn out as glossy as I would have liked, but they look good to me. I'm using Aquarian Modern Vintage heads on the tops of the toms and Classic Clears on the bottoms. The bass drums both have Superkick I's on batter sides.
Also included in the pictures is a solid maple 5.5x14 with Gibralter wood hoops. I'll get more pics of it up when I get more time.
